This is a warning to all those people who have upgraded to Windows 10 then within the month decide to return to Windows 7.

You can not!

I tried today I am within my month but a message appeared saying:-

"We're sorry, but you can not go back - The files we need to take you back to a previous version of Windows were removed from this PC".

So I am stuck with what I now know as a useless operating system.

I even did the amendment to File Explorer- and adding 'Win 7-' to Windows-BT & Windows-old files as mentioned on their site to extend the life.

Why? Where does it tell you to do something like that? Renaming the folders means the roll back routine can't find then.

I did the update/roll-back at least 3 times, but that was probably within the first couple of weeks of release. (I had to eventually do a BIOS update to let Win 10 recognise my laptop screen).

I've not tried to roll-back again since though, and don't really want to either - I'm happy enough with Windows 10.

Rename those folders back to what they were and you should be able to DOWNgrade ..

Windows 10 is great though, providing all your hardware is recognised of course
  • Why not just restore the image you took before making this major change to your machine?

What? You didn't make any backup prior to the change? What about an earlier image backup? None of those either? Ah....

Just back up your important data and run a clean install.

You can, you just need to follow the restore instructions.

I bet it wasn't posted by anyone from Microsoft.

I'd imagine it was on one of Microsoft's community or Forum sites, which are no more written by Microsoft than assuming every word on this Forum is written personally by Martin Lewis. :money: ;)

    Help Help Help

I just returned the Win 7 then found Kaspersky hadn't loaded so I downloaded the latest version and installed it but it failed as it said it couldn't remove the older version.

I tried to remove in Programs it says is unavailble

How do I remove this to reinstall?
