Relocating to west country

Hi
I currently live in the west sussex area but find it hard to get another job and properties are so expensive to buy, I am considering moving to either dorset or wiltshire as they seem cheaper there and ppl seem nicer too. I really want to try and get on the property ladder since I have 50k+ in savings and still live at home with my retired parents, I have no commitments to keep me here, friends, partner etc. Would I find work there does anyone live there, do they enjoy life in the west country?

What sort of work would you be looking for? That's not really a housing question, it would probably be better asked on the Employment board. Once you've determined whether a move is feasible from that perspective you can reasonably ask further questions about housing in the area.
  • I live in somerset. More house and land for your money, easy for commuting and a short distance between rural village life and the hustle and bustle of a town.

As agrinnall says, it really depends what type of work you are looking for but I can't say there is a shortage of general vacancies in my area.

Wage rates are certainly lower if you move further west into Devon or Cornwall. In local papers it is striking how nearly all of the jobs offered are at the NMW.

Can you get a transfer into another area as a postman? I imagine there are national wage rates within RM.
  • Are you on Facebook? It might be worth joining a few local groups in the areas you are considering and asking your questions - you'd probably get info from local posties too! This is my local Swanage group - they are a friendly bunch on the whole and the subject of relocating to this area often crops up:-
