  • Ask on Freecycle / Freegal if anyone has any fruit / veggies from their garden / allotment that they can spare... there are often people with a surplus.

When will you get paid? What have you got food wise?

If you pop over to the Old Style Moneysaving board they might be able to help you with ideas to stretch out the food you have...

Where do you live / work? There might be someone on here with some local ideas.

Are you in a union? The rep might be able to suggest something.

I think the thing with food banks is that they are being used all to often now and are very stretched with who and when they can offer assistance to, They also require certain proof to which for some maybe difficult to give or something they may not want to show.

Would the food banks be mainly run by the churches anyway !

I imagined a food bank where you go in and collect x number of items.

The food bank local to me have a number of churches as sponsors so they are behind the food banks, learn something new everyday.
  • Our local food bank is organised and run from our local church and is part of the Trussell Trust.

Call your local children's centre. My sister once needed some help and they provided some shopping for her.
  • Monthly wages are normally paid in arrears, weekly only a week in arrears so there should be no issues. Its when someone goes from weekly to monthly there is 4 weeks with no pay?

Years ago the government used to do something called a crisis loan. I only vaguely remember getting one when I needed it, but can't remember the exact circumstances.

I know that doesn't sound very helpful, but maybe if you pop to your local job centre and ask them if they have any details of whether you may qualify for that if it even still exists.

They are administered by the local authority now and the provision varies, there should be a contact number on the LA website.
