Does comping increase cold calls, spam and mailouts?

  • For mobile phone - best idea is to go to this site
    https://www.three.co.uk/Support/Free_SIM/Order

Order a 3-2-1 sim from Three
As soon as you put it in your phone it is active (no credit required for incoming calls) ..... and they never expire
I have had mine in my phone for over 2 years now, never put any credit on it - and it used purely for incoming calls for comping.

  • I use my main email address and I get mostly newsletters. I have ended up on a spam list somewhere though and do get the, Hi I'm Angela I've just seen your profile and your really hot emails. As well as OH MY GOSH YOUR ONE CLICK AWAY FROM YOUR 1K AT PRIMARK WIN! And your Nigerian uncle just died and he needs to put his 1 million pounds in your bank account. Oh and their is an issue on your paypal account please click here to sort it out (when it is a gmail address!) Just be careful with those. I kinda do wish I'd set up a separate email account for my comping, but then I personally would find it difficult keeping up with two email accounts!

As for phone calls I do get the odd one. Perhaps one a fortnight. Usually nothing nasty just someone asking me if I've had a nasty accident or I'm in debt (I love how they are always shocked when I tell them I have no loans/credit cards lol). As these are infrequent, perhaps one a fortnight, i really don't mind them at all and we just have a quick few minute exchange!

I have had a couple of dodgy calls, someone trying to sell me 150 euromillions tickets for £20 and someone else telling me I won something then asked for all my details to say good luck in a competition.

Mail hasn't been too off, sometimes I got the occasional leaflet through from a competition I've entered but that just gets recycled and it is pretty rare.

Just watch the tick boxes and you'll be fine :)!

I get a phone call about once every few months. I answer, say "no thanks" and then block the number.

Lots of email newsletters but nothing problematic, just don't be stupid and click on dodgy links etc

And probably 5 or so companies that send me quarterly catalogues. Small ones, not like an Argos book or anything!

I haven't noticed an increase in spam at all, save for the email newsletters and thats why you have a comping addy.

    Good luck :)
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!
  • emails, yes thousands of them.. daily. I currently have 13144 unread emails just in my inbox, I then also have different categories which certain key words go into and they all have thousands of unread emails too..

I only put my phone number when its *'ed and if i put in my phone number I make sure I untick (or tick, always read!!) to say no phone calls, Im not very cautious with the tick boxes though I tend to tick them and think oh well! but I havnt had any dodgy calls. but then if i did start gettindom calls id just unplug my landline as I only have one for the internet and everyone uses our mobile numbers.

Trouble is some contact winners by phone and don't try any other method so you could be entering with no chance of winning.
