Medion screen problem

I have a Medion laptop running Vista which i am happy with and do not want to upgrade.
However just over the last few weeks the screen has flickered a bit and now finally this afternoon it (the screen) won't come on at all.
On advice from someone I had already plugged ina separate flat screen monitor and although startup was interminably slow I am now working on the laptop but using the separate screen.
Anyone any ideas what may have caused the problem?
The repair shop I went just said 'bin it, it's too old'! Don't want to do that.
Also MSE home page is now too big to fit on the screen and I've forgotten how to make the font etc smaller so it fits. Anyone know please?
Thanks a lot.:o

Is it the font or the screen resolution? What model number the machine?0

The model is a P6620.
Sorry not sure about the rest of your question?
The screen remains black?
Ah, re not fitting onto the screen, its the font size I need to alter.
I know it's something like Shift and the minus sign but can't see where to put the cursor before doing this?
Thanks0 -
To get the display to fit is Ctrl and the minus sign! Yay.
Still got a non functioning screen tho??:eek:0 -
The flickering and eventual failure does sound like a damaged or disconnected ribbon, but perhaps someone with experience of those things will see your post.0

Or an inverter board dying.0 -

Inverter board is just £5 to £10.
Speeding the machine up can just involve a clean up of the software or a clean install.0 -
Sorry for delay responding but screen failure means I'm struggling to pick up responses.
Had the laptop to 2 different techies and no joy - at the second one the problem was not replicated and I think he thought i was barmy!
So any thoughts on an intermittent screen failure!!
Thanks.:)0 -
Dodgy ribbon cable if it is intermittent.0
