My son is a 27-year old Clinical Psychology Masters student at Columbia University in New York.
We, as a family have taken all the credit we can out in loans and bank savings to get him to the point at which he is at.
He currently has a scholarship that sees him through until January, where he is left with 5 credits worth of studying left to find in the Spring. Each credit is worth just under $1,500. He will be working at school for the maximum of 20 hours this term just to cover his living expenses, which comes close to same amount per month, $1,400. He is so close to finishing his masters, and achieving his dream of getting a job in America after he has graduated, but we are in desperate need of advice.
That being said, we are wondering what actions can be taken. Can anybody help us at all?
We greatly appreciate any help you can offer, thank you for reading my post.

This is a UK website, I'd suggest you find somewhere on your side of the pond to ask this.0

Just for the record we live in Wales and are British,we have paid everything and he has a part scholarship. Columbia University in New York is extremely difficult to get into and my son was accepted on his academic qualifications. I am only asking if anyone has had any knowledge that may help. This site has always been helpful in the past.0

Why didn't he study in the UK as Clinical Psychology training is funded over here?somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Surely, he is better off seeking help over there. He can't be the only student having to finance himself.
If the work he does is to cover his living expenses, then it doesn't cover the credits. If he was just short of $500, I am sure he could take a loan to that amount.
Aged 27 with good career prospects, he *should* be able to sort out his own finances ...I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

There might be something there.0 -
There is a shortage of clinical of psychologists, but in reality, the job prospects are dim. The NHS especially are very tight with their budget and usually reluctant to take on new people.
Your son is better off working in the U.S when he finishes his studies or go Private in the U.K. There is no money here in research in U.K unless you want to live in debt constantly.
But I must commend you for doing what's best for your son, if you have exhausted your options here maybe your son can apply for loans over in the STates. But Loan and debts are a very dangerous path to go down as a clinical psychologist do not earn as much as you were hoping for.

Intersting he could work for MI5 though."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
