Car taken out of the country, failure to notify and insure?

Hi I have a car that I owned when I used to live in the UK.
I took the car out of the country over 6 months ago and wish to return with it to sell it. I took it with me as I didn't have no place to leave it, I didn't tax, insure or drive it in the country I went to.
I have just picked up my mail from a friend and I have court summons and notices for failing to insure. I didn't realise I had to let the UK government know what I was doing with MY car.
Anyway, the DVLA asked me for the reg when I called and after I told them it was 6 months out of the country they said I would need to re-import it. Would I need to pay a fee to do this?
If I bring my car back to the UK to try and sell it does anyone know if I will be liable for these fines or not? If so will they go against the vehicle or myself personally?
Thanks for the advice

You are required to have insurance at all times for a car in the UK unless it is SORNed. You couldn't be bothered to tell the authorities that you'd taken it out of the country so it's hard to see how they would have known that. Failure to understand your responsibilities doesn't absolve you from them.0 -
If you did not tell them you were exporting the car how did you expect them to know, they would have no record and would have expected you to SORN the vehicle and take it off road if it was not insured.theplastickid wrote: »I have just picked up my mail from a friend and I have court summons and notices for failing to insure. Oh, they'll have known all right if you drove it out.
Unfortunately we don't have government agencies that are capable tying their data up.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

You come on a forum to ask for help and then insult people who respond, having a jib at the very people who "spend their life on a forum" that you just asked for help? Expect no further help.0
