Tax Code Help.

Options
Hi There,

I could really do with some help (of course, will called HMRC when I can).

My current tax code is 1007L N.

I understand the L is the "normal" tax code letter, but the N I can only see refers to a married person (which I am not, and have never been).

I currently, until the end of the month have company benefits (gym paid for - although I pay for some of it, which I am checking out now). Could this relate to these at all? Everything online relating to N tax code says;

N meaning that you are part of a couple and have given away 10% of your personal allowance to your partner.

Would appreciate any help/advice as I am now panicking!

    An N after the tax code often refers to the tax basis as being non-cumulative. Cannot tell for certain without more details (eg Month number, taxable gross to date and tax paid to date to start with) but this could be due to HMRC reducing your tax code. Did you have a higher tax code earlier in the tax year eg 1060L? If you did what appeared after that on your payslips?

    Is the "N" on your pay slip, probably nothing to do with your actual tax code and purely down to your employer.

    I wondered this, but it's in the tax code box, on my payslip, with no brackets etc to seperate it from the code, besides the space after the L.

    My tax code changed in April from 949L N to 1007L N, so this is Month 1.

    Now I've cancelled my gym membership, would my code change? I'm slightly confused (I can't really get a straight answer from my company), as (besides the N) I am on a "normal" tax code, and no benefits/deductions are shown on my payslip.
