With the new interchange fee caps coming in, it looks like more solo Amex cards will be issued and the duo cards be discontinued...

Who knows what will happen...
I will certainly be keeping a close eye open on this situation as I recently took out a Lloyds Avios duo card as a backup to my normal Amex.0 -
just for the Mastercard?0

Yep, I did, although I have used the Amex card that comes with it and received a 'not bad' sign up bonus too.0

What does this mean for duo card accounts? I have two and I'm wondering will it just become an Amex soley or will I still have the other Visa and MasterCard that goes along with it.
Why are duo accounts changing?0 -
The writing is pretty much on the wall for the secondary card as the interchange reduction in the coming months will make them virtually eliminate any points etc
Given that MBNA launched a Amex only card recently, it means a major player is happy to issue solo Amex...What does this mean for duo card accounts? I have two and I'm wondering will it just become an Amex soley or will I still have the other Visa and MasterCard that goes along with it.
Why are duo accounts changing? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I read somewhere that only Amex cards issued directly by Amex themselves will be exempt from the interchange fee caps, therefore it will make diddly squat difference to an issuer such as Lloyds if you use an Avios Amex card or Avios Mastercard so will have no reason to discontinue the mastercard.
AFAIK Amex themselves don't issue duo cards. Will try to dig the article.0 -
The EC’s legislation only covers four party schemes (MasterCard, Visa and mainly debitlocal schemes). Three party schemes ‘that operate in a similar way to four party schemes’ (such as Amex GNS) by providing licenses to issuers and acquirers are covered by the legislation and consequently are restricted to providing incentives to issuers that do not exceed the interchange cap. Pure three party schemes, such as Amex, Diner and PayPal, are actually out of the scope of this legislation.
