My bank has reported double my current debt

Hi there,

I am hoping someone has some advice for me regarding an issue I discovered today.

I registered an account on clearscore and was surprised to see 2 x hsbc credit cards listed as open and both in max debt of £3000, I contacted hsbc who advised that this was an error on their part and they would update the data share and would provide me a £55 credit on my current account for my troubles.

As I suspected, the bank in 2013 switched from mastercard to visa, but in the process they didn't close the mastercard account so it has reported the debt at the time it was transferred 2 years ago.

I have advised that I accept the actions they are taking to correct this issue but have stated that i do not consider this matter closed and raised an official complaint into the fact that my credit rating has been impacted over the last 2 years.

The most annoying part of this, is that I spoke to my bank last year to try and work out a loan repayment so I could consolidate my debts into 1 payment, they advised that this would not be possible owing to my current credit utilisation, however the £3000 they were reporting has falsely increased my credit utilisation percentage.

I feel like I have been adversely impacted by this situation, do you think I have a case regarding an official complaint.

About me:

current employer: 7 years
current salary: 27,000
based: Nottingham
current debt: £6500 (or £9500 if you include the false £3000)
total outgoings per month £700 (this includes rent, bills, food and minimum payment amounts towards all cards)
total over payment £400+ (per month)

If you raise a complaint what outcome are you looking for? You should have this in mind when you make the complaint.

Bear in mind that if you are looking for financial compensation you will have to properly substantiate any financial losses. Just making a vague reference to being financially disadvantaged won't cut it. IF their actions prevented you from obtaining a debt consolidation loan (And that would be almost impossible to prove) they have probably done you a favour.

In my opinion the bank have made and error. When you have drawn their attention to it they have corrected it and given you £55 as a gesture of goodwill. Accept it and move on.
