How can you get a bill, let alone a revised nil one, if you don't even have an account?

Or have you given them enough rope to now hang you???

I really don't understand your point. Do you think that SSE sending the OP a revised bill showing he owes them nothing along with an apology somehow undermines his case? If so can you elaborate?

(Should I be worried if someone tells me I owe them nothing?)

A neighbour handed me a letter from SSE this morning, it had been addressed wrongly; mis-spelled the town and omitted the road name, but somehow it got to us. This is despite me telling their customer services dept the correct address in full several times. Here is what it says:
"I would like to confirm that we have closed the account and will waiver all charges. You will receive a final bill, however, please disregard this as a replacement statement will be sent to confirm your £0.00 balance."
I once again emailed them the correct address. What a hopeless shower they are.
    Thanks everyone for your help.

Excellent. Keep that letter filed for future !!!!-ups, and make sure you get the statement confirming the £0.00 balance.

I would also like to see a letter from them stating that they will not try to claim any SC costs in the future. The fact that the account is now closed is good, though it didn't stop them trying to claim before when there wasn't even an account open! :rotfl:

The barn has a power supply I wonder if it can be turned into a dwelling?
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
  • Dear zaax - whoever buys this will probably do just that, but we are looking into whether we will get p.p. as it is AONB, which precludes such development. We just don't know how it is when we live opposite 3 "converted" barns that were demolished entirely before being turned into residential property. In fact just last year a crumbling stable block made of breeze blocks and fresh air also got permission to be converted to residential. Our Council is full of planning officers who are property developers on the side, or have big back pockets if you get my drift.
  • To lstar337 - Thanks for that, I have fired off another email as there is still no Nil Bill, and asked for confirmation
that no standing charge is implemented unless an account is opened with SSE. I didn't think of that, so thanks.
  • Just got a nil bill and letter saying they would not be claiming back any standing order in the future. Will keep to show to solicitor in case buyer asks.

    THANK YOU so much guys.

they would not just remove the old one without a hefty fee as it involved digging up the concrete yard all the way up to the road. (No idea why they would have had to do this.)
Looks like they are providing you with the cost of permanently disconnecting the service. I would personally be going back to SSE and tell them that it needs to be de-energised (meter removed) not disconnected ie service cut off in footpath.
