Unsettled ccj turns 6 yrs old soon? what should I do.....

Recently checked out husbands credit report after being turned down by high street mortgage lender. On the report an unsettled ccj for £1100 has come to light ( we have returned from living abroad so we're not aware) It will turn 6 yrs old in 6 weeks time, obviously the right thing to do would be to pay up, however I have been advised by a friend to do nothing as it will drop off the report whatever when it turns 6 yrs old? Is this correct? Other than this we have no other bad marks on our reports. Hoping to get a mortgage ASAP so if this is correct it would be useful towards our minimal deposit if we were able to get away with not paying up? Morally wrong I know but i would be grateful for advise as to what I should do to put us in the best position for our possible mortgage application again.

It drops off the credit report but the CCJ will still exist and can be enforced, although I think the creditor will be less likely to be granted enforcement remedies by the judge if the debt hasn't been enforced for a long time.
If I were in your position and could afford to pay it, I would pay it.What will your verse be?

Thanks for your replies, I'm thinking that as soon as I see it gone from all 3 reports I will make the mortgage application, get all my house buying costs out of the way and then look to address this one way or another, or at least make sure I have the funds available in case it does come back to bite us. Many thanks0

You were of the debt you left behind. Creditors now use GAIN (Gone Away Information Network) to monitor debtors that resurface. So you still run the risk of being pursued for the CCJ.
If you've been abroad then your credit history won't be current. Something which may cause you issues in obtaining a mortgage.0
