As far as I know, ANY text direct to a BT landline is converted to voice in the soothing tones of Tom Baker.

If you want to send a lot of SMS messages from a PC, you can sign up for a range of email to SMS services. You pay for a certain number of SMS messages up front, send them to a specific email address in a particular format, and their server sends them out as SMS messages.

    It's a female voice.

Has it been changed? I remember all the publicity about Tom Baker doing it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4665254.stm

Edit: Never mind disappointingly looks like they've changed it and it can be a selection of male or female voice.

Thanx for that everyone...will this still work on an NTL owned landline? (the recipient is on NTL).

If you have an SMS landline phone and it's set up, you won't hear a voice it will arrive as a text on your SMS landline phone (unless the sender uses a T-Mobile or their virtuals (Virgin, M&S, Fresh etc.) as these don't use the BT SMS service).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Yes, the SMS service is either run by BT (from landlines including cable landlines, O2, Orange, Vodafone and Three) or by T-Mobile (For T-Mobile sent messages and Virgin and Fresh and M&S etc).

The landline SMS service available on cable using SMS landline phones is simply the BTText service.
