    Yes it takes time AND UNDERSTANDING, which is what you pay for if you pay an accountant. Legally, yes you certainly can do it for yourself, but it is not anywhere near as simple as a personal tax return, it is one ugly brute of a form and the help minimal. If you make no profit, you have no tax, but the tax return is to show HMRC that you made no profit and owe them no tax, which is why you have to file accounts annually regardless, and it is the process of preparing these that takes money.

    Of course you also need to do your companies house return as well, but that's easy and very doable, and is only £13.

    Not trying to put you off, just want you to understand the responsibilities you are undertaking!
