I recently made a claim for JSA in doing so I mistakenly entered by bank details wrong. A payment I was due was paid into the wrong account. The Job Centre say its my fault and I will have to contact the bank to get the payment returned, the bank is saying they cant do that and the Job Centre need to recall they payment. Any Advice

The bank is correct. The sender of the money must request the money back. Whether they will get it back depends on where the money is. If it went into someone else's account, that someone else needs to agree to return it. If the payment was for a non-existent account, it went into a holding account and can be paid back to the Job Centre. None of the two options will be quick.
Do you know where the money went? Do you know the account holder? If so, could you ask them to give you the money?0 -
I know the account number of the account it was payed into but not who holds that account0

OP, sadly, the JCP is correct. They sent they the money where they were told to send it. Just make sure you've corrected the details for any further payments. Before you start chasing any missing remittances0

As explained by colsten, the JCP is not correct. Their procedures may not extend to them requesting the money to be returned, but they are the only ones allowed to do so, the OP can do nothing directly. I would argue that if they refuse to request the return then they should pay it again to the corrected account number.0 -
The remitter needs to call the payment back in this situation it would be the Job Centre, the bank is just the end goal and they have no authority to return the payment.
That said if its gone into a valid account number the job centre may have problems recalling it, but the owner of the account knows the money is not theirs as it would have someone else NINO number attached, but as others have said the owner of the account would have to agree to the money being removed if the JCP were unable to recall the payment (there is time restraints on recalling payments)...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. use a sort code and account number checker like sort codes . co . uk to see if its a valid account.
If its not then it should bounce back to JCP within 10 working days and then they can repay you to the correct account number and sort code.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards.
