Digital Camera memory cards

I was going to buy the f30fd fuji camera, but have been confused this morning with the option of f40fd, which is a similar price on amazon. The only difference between these that I care about is that the latter can use SD as well as xD cards.
Can someone tell me what would be the advantage of this? Prices? Availability? Are there any technical problems this dual system can encounter?

SD cards are much cheaper than xD, you should be able to get a 4 gig SD for around £17 online, whereas for the same price, xD would be 2 gig.

Just remember to check the write speeds. Not all cards are equal and a slow card will leave you waiting for an age as it writes to it before you can take another photo.

Ooh, never thought of speeds of these cards. But if I go for good brands - ie not the cheapest, then should be fine I suppose.

I have since read that the former camera is expected to come out in another version yet again, as they will be fitting the SD cards in. So I think I've made my choice for now.

Also before you buy a card, make sure you know the max capacity card that the camera will handle. you may buy a 4gig card then find that the camera will only cope with 2 gigs.
