How to access Cistern on Toilet?

I have an Ideal Standard toilet with the 'half flush/full flush' button on the top of the cistern. Before I can remove the lid i need to somehow disconnect these buttons. I'm guessing I either have to screw them to loosen them or just pull them off but I don't just want to guess in case I damage something.
Anyone know the correct way of accessing the Cistern with this setup...?
Thanks
Marc

To prise off the buttons, you need to first push either button down, to reveal an indentation on the hidden face of the non-pressed button. You can use a screwdriver to lift off the non-pressed button. The remaining button can simply lifted off and the holding screw is revealed. Unscrew the holding screw and lift off the lid.0
