Unreliable Avon Reps

If there's a string of reps in your area and none are lasting, it may be that their "next level" is overly pushy. My partner does Avon, and she's always been adamant that she has no interest in distributing books or having a territory - she leaves books behind the bar in our local, and collects the orders when we go for a drink on a Friday evening, delivering orders back to the pub when they arrive a week later. Even so, she used to regularly get calls asking if she could try and sell more.

I am guessing that would be annoying.

Why on earth do people want to buy through a person and not just use their website?!

I am an Avon rep, I actually became one because I was thoroughly fed up of my local reps being so unreliable!

TBH I have had many people commenting how nice it is to have a 'proper' Avon rep like me, who comes round with samples and perfume testers and knows her stuff when it comes to the products. I had a LOT of work to do in my streets to build up trust after so many people had bad experiences with previous reps, I've heard so many stories about people placing orders and them never being collected!

I am too stubborn, and I am in my mid-30s, it's true I think that the younger ones do tend to be more fly-by-night and aren't prepared to put in the work, it takes a while to establish yourself but it's very rewarding. My sales leader said she has many many reps give up on the first go, wanting money quickly and not getting it.

I should say that you won't become a millionnaire(ss) through being an Avon rep, you really do have to do it for the love of it as it's not easy or quick money unless you're very very lucky!

I know a few people who work 24ish hours in employment and use the Avon to push them up to the 30hour element of WTC, so that's another possible reason why people aren't motivated particularly to do it as an actual job, I know a few of these girls are like that!

my neighbour is an Avon rep, she actually started maybe 5 years ago, did it for a couple of years, then gave up (as it was just so much work for very little reward). She's back doing it again, now that her kids have all grown up and left home and she has the time to dedicate to it (still for not much financial reward though, i have to say).

I'm amazed there's even a need to Avon reps since you can order online.

Nothing beats Avon for dry skin products. Fortunately a friend of my daughter is a rep and I try to give her a bit of trade, otherwise I would be ordering online too.

. In the area my friend lives in, (a village of 450 properties with half the people over 60,) they had a rep who often got 200-300 orders a month from this village alone, sometimes totalling £2.5K to £3.5K, sometimes much more. She made a killing.

£3500/month in sales would mean she gets about £700, if the 20% fugue given elsewhere is accurate. On 300 orders, it's a bit over £2/order, but let's say £2.50. Which is, of course, taxable. That's £2.50ish to cover the catalogues, testers, delivery, possibly fuel for 3 trips (catalogue, take order, deliver), time, customer relations, returns, and any personal taxes etc.

I can believe she made a reasonable supplementary income, but it doesn't sound like a killing in purely cash terms, that she was doing her round in a brand new range rover, for instance. I can imagine many great social reasons and side benefits and it being important especially for an older community, just I could imagine rounds getting smaller over time...
