I am trying to choose a really decent digital camera as a secret pressie for my husband. He's a lot more conversant with technology than me so I want to buy him the best one I can for my budget (which is approx £180 to include memory card and case). I browsed on Amazon and looked at some of the threads on here - I'm just not sure what features I should be looking for, e.g. just cos something has high Mega Pixels doesn't mean it's the best?
At the moment we have a Pentax Optio s50 which is a good few years old now. It's fairly easy to use but is all but worn out.
Anyone tell me how to pick the best one or direct me to a good site where they provide unbiased reviews/ comparisons??

i'd recommed a Canon Ixus myself. Great picture quality, easy to use and comes with rechargable battery. Takes SD cards which are pretty cheap these days and for the size, well you can fit one in a cigarette packet and close the lid.0

Wow! Buying a techy thing for hubby, like a male buying a dress for his wife! At that budget there are some really nice things in the frame, I like this Panasonic wide super zoom which comes out this September: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/digital-cameras/panasonic-intros-18x-optical-zoom-powerhouse-lumix-dmc+fz18-281632.php
If you get anything with a powerful Zoom, ensure it has image stabilization.0
