Glasses I ordered don't fit. Advice?

I'm a newbie to glasses. Went to a local place (recommended by mom) on Friday. Tried on loads of pairs and decided on 2 (BOGOF deal) and paid 50% as a deposit. Went to collect them today and was asked for the balance. I asked to try glasses on first. One pair perfect. Second pair have been altered in some way so the lens on the right eye is too close to my eye and when I blink my eyelashes are getting caught on the lens. I pointed it out and one of the staff used a heat machine to try and alter the frame slightly but to no avail. The other member of staff asked if I had mascara on when ordering the glasses as it was probably that making my eyelashes longer - I had mascara on on Friday but how much length she thought todays added was beyond me! I ended up getting the same frame in another colour off the shelf and showing her that it fitted with no eyelash catching and she finally agreed there was a problem.
I now have to wait until tomorrow for the optician to be in to look at my glasses. They are going to ring to sort something out but it may mean another trip to town to show the optician what the problem is and a further trip to collect the corrected glasses. I am really fed up and, after todays palaver, a little worried about whether or not I will ever get the glasses sorted. Any ideas on what my rights are so I can go in ready?
I pointed out to the staff that I was unhappy as I do need the glasses and am now without them and they said I could pay the balance and take home the pair that fitted. What a cheek! I told them no more money until I get 2 pairs sorted. The unfortunate thing is that I ordered 2 pairs of branded glasses - one for work and one for home. The home pair cannot be worn at work as they are Playboy glasses and Playboy products are banned where I work (Catholic school). If the Playboy ones were duff I'd have said I'll take one pair and pay when the others are fixed but I don't want to do that in case they can't sort the other frames. If the other frame is permanently causing lashes on the lenses can I claim a refund of my deposit and order from somewhere else?

i certainly wouldn't have paid either!! i've been wearing glasses for years and never had a paid that close to my face that eyelashes can touch the lenses - that sounds very odd. not sure what specific advise to give, other than making sure that you speak to the manager about it when you go back.:happyhear0

Hi Pandora - I used to work for a national chain of opticians for some years and it sounds as though during the glazing process the frame on the second pair has altered slightly in its shape. however, it shouldn't have changed that much that the dispensers couldn't sort it all out for you while you were there to collect. Personally, I never used to let a client leave without making very sure that their specs fit properly without any of the eyelash catching you mention or ear rubbing, and always advised that if it started in the future to come back in to have the frame altered again (I wear glasses myself so know how very irritating this can be!). I'm also shocked that they asked you for payment without letting you try them and that they were (it sounds like) going to just let you leave without trying them first - what if the perscription had been wrong or something like that?
Definitely don't pay them any money until this is all sorted out and if it comes to it insist on the optician themselves doing the frame adjustments for you.
Good luck,

I don;t wear glasses but have always found that sunglasses catch my eyelashes - I assumed my face was just the wrong shape for glasses and been grateful I don't need them! But if there is an answer I'd love to hear it cos it's a horrible feeling. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I have had problems with one of the sets of glasses in a BOGOF deal (I use Specsavers). They were fin eabout it though and gave the pair that were OK and asked me to call in the following evening. I did the glasses still had a problem so rather than cause an issue I simply asked them to give me another pair of the frames that were OK (even though this meant making a new set of lenses). They did so and I collected them the following evening and settled the remaining bill.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
