old boiler/cover

I have an old worscester bosch boiler and ought to think about boiler cover and a service with winter coming up - I don't want to wake up with isicles on my beard.
It seems to need restarting and pressure adjustment recently. And sometimes dark fluid drips from underneath. This has all calmed down now.
I wonder if it's on its last legs?
What sort of cover should I look for? Or just buy an annual service and not pay into cover?
thank you

We've had a similar problem with our Combi Baxi Boiler. Estimate our boiler is in the region of 13 years. We moved in last November. Was fine until a month or two ago but water control needs to be reset at least 5 times a day. Have opted to have new Worchester/Bosch boiler fitted. Don't want to be without heat & hot water with winter coming up. Hate to sound negative but your boiler might be on it's last legs. Not sure if you'd get cover if your boiler is over 8 years old but might be wrong. Good luck.0

Oh. So they don't cover old boilers? Didn't know that. I think mine is a late 90s model but not sure when it was installed as new. Only been here 4 months.0

They would probably do a cover pre inspection basically to see if its worth their while covering it. If it's on its last legs then it isn't in those interest.
Bear in mind many policies have a BER * clause and on an older boiler your limit is pretty small so changing a smallish part plus labour is likely to take you past that pretty quickly. Have you had the boiler serviced?
BER = beyond economical repair0 -
No I haven't had it serviced. I only moved in few months ago.
It works fine at mo...Pressure etc fine and water and heating fine.
Given the season coming up what's my best option. ...call out for pre inspection ?0 -
If you've got black water dripping from it that's an indication of sludge & a poorly maintained system & none of the service plans cover breakdown due to sludgeI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

So my best option is to get it serviced first and then get a plan?
Or sign up to a plan with annual service and then get it serviced straight away with that?0 -
If you have a leak from it you need a repair, then a serviceI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

It's not really leaking. It's maybe one drip per day.0 -
The drip may be one of the isolation valves on the filling loop letting by. This in turn may be causing a gradual loss in pressure which causes the boiler to cut out when the pressure is too low.
Can you see where the water is dripping from?If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

one drip a day is a leak, it might not be a major one but its still a leak, a service is a service it's not a repairI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
