Selling house with outstanding electricity bills

I'm moving house and hoping to exchange contacts in the next couple of weeks. I am currently in dispute with the electricity company over the bills (long story about switching supplier going wrong and not having bills for a long period of time) which is ongoing and have complaint being looked into. Just to set my mind to rest, am I ok to leave this to be sorted out between myself and the company and my buyer will just start afresh with the meter readings when I move?

Yes ... obviously you should take meter readings as you leave the house and inform the supplier of your change of address.0

To avoid difficulties and later possible legal action I would inform buyer also.
Photograph ALL meter readings (Gas, water, electric), ideally with a witness (you have an ongoing dispute & may need support): email or write a letter to your current supplier(s), copy buyer, with these readings, keep copies.. Similar letter to council re. council tax0
