Seems my ip addressn has been banned any solution?

Options
Hi folks,

With talktalk and started getting messages on here that my ip is banned so can't post or read posts (using a proxy to post this at the moment)

No reason whatsoever for ip to be banned.

I have rebooted talktalk router but same problem.

Any solution I wonder?

You can try turning off your router for few hours. When you turn it on again it may be assigned a new IP address.

That tends to work if it's just a single, or handful of IP's banned, if however the sites that have banned them have done so due to a reoccuring issue with users on that ISP there may be a bunch of them banned (potentially all users in a certain area depending on how Talktalk assign the IP's).

But as you say it's definitely worth trying, otherwise it may be worth the op contacting the sites and asking as they may be willing to remove the blocks (especially if they've been in place for a while).

IP bans/blocks on troublesome forum users are usually pretty pointless as you can get round them most of the time for the sort of troll/troublemaker that is bad enough to get one in the first place (if the troll is bad enough and does it via their employer or schools network a warning to them followed by a complaint to the school/employer the next time they do it from those IP's is sometimes much better, but a last resort)

Thanks for replies. Using Hotpoint shield at the moment hence able to post on this site, seems to be only this site where I am coming up as banned ip

The problem still remains though I tried the following which cured it for a while.

I am banned with the ip on the Talktalk super router with inbult modem I switched it off and on but no good same ip.

I connected my old openreach router and that worked got a new ip and could post, but once I went back to Talktalk superouter the same ip as when I used it before and coming up as banned again. I really do have to use the superrouter as the wireless on it is good.

Doing a google brought this up,

    https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Superpowered-Fibre-Broadband/New-IP-address/td-p/1585192

but following the instructions there and changing the (ip) to (ppp) I get prompted for a user name which I don't have on fibre, don't really want to try something as I may knock off the internet altogether. I'm on talktalk fibre medium.

Any other ideas appreciated. Just how long am I stuck with this ip for even if I leave router off overnight?

    Many thanks for any help
  • Just left my Talktalk super router off all night, but still same ip today.

Anyone got an idea if I continue to leave it off every night, will I eventually get a new ip?

Posting through a vpn which is slow and a right pain in the backside.
I have filled in form on site to contact admin to unblock my ip, hope they do clear it as I am missing browsing the forums in a normal manner.

    Thanks

Might be best to ask this on the TT member forums ... they should be able to tell you how TT handles IP addresses.

You said your Openreach modem gets a different (and usable) IP but you want to use the TT router as it has better WiFi than whatever you had before, Looking at a picture of what is supposed to be the TT super router I see a WAN port as well as the connector for the phone line. That means you should be able to still use the Openreach modem and connect it to the WAN port.

Run it a week or so that way then try without the Openreach modem to see if you have a fresh IP then. If not rinse and repeat.

Thanks for that solution will try it, but do hope as well that forum team will get back to me and unblock that ip.
    Thanks

    Update

Thanks a million Kwikbreaks, that solution is working well, no problem now, will do as you say and try the super router on its own in a weeks time.

I do hope though that the technical team for the forum will address this
problem as it could well happen to others.

Yesterday I was pasting an email from Tesco in a thread, whatever happened whether the site though I was sending spam I don't know. It does come across as there is some auto detect system in place that will autormatically ban an ip address, one second you are reading or posting on site and the next moment your ip is banned.

Thanks again for taking the time to research this and all your help, and to all the replies.

Virgin use "sticky" IPs which rarely change unless you use a different router with their modem (or Superhub in modem mode). It can take over a week of off time before the IP for any given device will be reallocated and a different one used. If you do have a separate modem and router check to see if the router supports MAC spoofing - if it does changing the MAC will result in a fresh IP.
