Clutch covered under warranty?
Hi all, just a quick 1.i was test driving a 2015 Toyota auris today (8k miles on clock) and really liked it. The only problem was when pressing and releasing the clutch there was a definite click sound at the top position, there also seemed to b a small deadband when 1st pressing the clutch. The salesman assured me that this was due to the stop /start technology on the car where a switch is activated when the clutch is pressed. While this may well be true I am always wary of over trusting salesmen.
My question is, if I went ahead and bought the car and ended up finding a fault with the clutch would it be covered under the standard Toyota 5 year warranty. I know clutches are considered a wear and tear item but I don't know if there are any rules if it goes within 1st 2 years etc as surely this would have to be considered a defect rather than wear and tear.
Thanks in advance

We had a clutch replaced under warranty at 4 years on a Kia. That's no guarantee that Toyota would do the same though.0

Point it out the them and make sure there is a note that your dubious about the clutch being worn.
If it fails soon after then you should be able to get them to pay for it, If its a fair few thousand miles then they will probably class it as wear and tear.
I know someone that burnt a clutch out in less miles. If it is on its way out at that mileage then maybe the previous driver was not very good.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Try other cars of the same model to see if they are the same.0

The only way to test a clutch is to put the car in 4th gear with the handbrake on, come off the clutch and if it stalls then it's probably ok.
The Auris is one of "those cars", the one's that if I see ahead I will overtake at the first opportunity, without giving them a chance to prove they won't be driving like a blind 90 year old.
It's also that type of car that a certain type of driver buys, so the clutch may have been ridden for all of those 8k miles.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I had a timing belt fail on a 3 year old Corsa with 36k on it - dealership wouldn't budge and wanted me to pay them £800 to fix it - I went to Vauxhall who agreed to pay 75% of the cost. This was about 15 years ago so may or not be relevant but I thought I'd share it.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

Don't believe a word the salesman says. There are threads all around here from people that did, bought the car and now regret it. If it's clicky could be a dodgy master cylinder.
