My laptop is having internet connection problems - both wireless and via Ethernet cable. Websites are timing out more often than not although when I managed to run a speed test it was showing as 10mb download speed. All other devices seem to be working fine which makes me think that the problem is with the laptop.
I've run CCleaner and removed unnecessary files from the disk clean up menu. I'm not sure what to do next?
The laptop is an Acer Aspire V5-431 ( I know it's not high end but it has been working fine until now!)

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

Did you try switching off your router for a few minutes and turning back on? I solved website time out issues via wireless that way.
Honestly if you're having problems with cable and wireless i'd suspect a router fault or a line fault. Would recommend contacting your provider.
Can you expand on other devices seem fine?0 -
Tablets, phones, PlayStation & daughter's laptop are all connecting and working fine. I spoke to Plusnet yesterday and they couldn't see any line issues.
I've tried a router reset but I'll try another one.! Thanks."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Maybe DNS problems? Have you tried using different DNS servers? You should be able to change them via your router's web interface (or the telnet interface if not).0

As I have mentioned on another thread, I had problems, a few months ago, which were clearly linked to the laptop, as the other computer was fine.
Remembering that I'd had a recent Explorer update, I asked my son to reset to a date prior to the upgrade and we were back to normal. However, on allowing updates, the problems came back, so my updates are switched off and the internet is fine.0 -
Since your Laptop is is an Acer Aspire V5-431 I am assuming that you are using windows. What version of windows are you using? windows 7 / 8 / 10?
I would suggest that you delete wifi network connection in Windows 7 and add it again.
To delete a wireless network connection
Start Network and Sharing Center.
In the Tasks pane, click Manage wireless networks.
Right-click the network connection you want to delete, and then click Remove network.
In the Manage Wireless Networks - Warning dialog box, click OK.
Add the network again as you normally would do with a new connection.
Let me know if that works out for you or not?0 -
Try a different browser, IE has an issue where it times out too quickly..... I can't remember what causes it or what fixes it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
