Hi
I hope someone can help, please, with some advice on how to save and send a document successfully, with Libre Office, that will be "accepted" by the recipient and read in the professional format.
For example, I naïvely thought (until a year or so ago) that when I painstakingly wrote my CV, in professional format, saved it to my USB, etc, that when I attached it to an application to a prospective employer, their "read version" would be the same as that in which I sent it. How wrong I was, when I found out by accident, and no-one had actually come back and told me!
I have now finally managed to buy broadband and a laptop, but cannot afford to buy the Microsoft Package, annually, on top; so on the recommendation of Forum posters, I downloaded "Libre Office". However, I have found, especially of late, that many sites and recipients will not accept my format of CV as it ends in ".odt", (which is how it comes out under Libre Office).
They usually ask for CVs to end in ".doc", "docx", "pdf".
Whilst I have the option on my laptop to transfer documents to PDF, (with Adobe, I think,) it wants me to sign up and pay another fee to do so.
Prior to having my laptop, when I created, and sent, my CVs from a public computer, (such as my local Library, a work computer, etc,) I didn't have any problems, so can anyone help please?!
(I am currently trying to apply for a job via Gumtree, and the closing date is tomorrow, but it won't accept my CV to load!)
THANK YOU in advance.

[Libre Office] ... File -> Export as PDF0

Can't you just choose to save your document created in Libre Office as a word document (.doc or .docx) instead of saving in the default .odf format (use save as instead of save to do this)?
If it mucks it up and plays havoc with the formatting, recreate the CV without borders, headers etc, just make it more simple and it should look fine.0 -
LibreOffice will save as .doc .docx or .pdf without any additional software or expense.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

It's dead simple.
.odt is Libre Office's default when saving documents, this can easily be changed and they offer many different formats.
All you need to do is access the file type drop down box when "saving as", simply select .doc or .docx.
I'd then open that file to check on the formatting.
Hey presto you have a universally accepted CV.
Going forward it is simple to set .doc or .docx as your default (replacing .odt) in the future Click0 -

PDF is not an option for saving the file, because once you have PDF'd it, it is no longer editable as a word processor document.
LibreOffice can, however, create PDF's as I indicated in post £20 -
I use Libre Office and share files with people using different Office Software. Best way I agree is to use the 'export to pdf' option. Then you don't have any formatting going awol.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
