I totally understand you saying that at 25 or 26 you need your space, but you'd be far better off taking a 2nd job and saving up to get a place of your own than giving money to a slum landlord and possibly living with the most annoying, awful flatmates, which is what could well happen.
Hey,
Yes, this is what i was considering doing. I wanted to try save as much this year as i could and then move, but wouldn't that just be holding out the chance of moving? I do want to move out, but just not sure about sharing.
I would like my own space, but it's not always possible. I am in two minds of what to do, either i stay home and save or move out and live with strangers, while also saving small amount every month.
Obviously i can save more living at home. Hmm, i agree that i could well end up with horrible housemates and that's a nightmare. People will always be nicey nice initially, but then when you get to know them they turn into different people and end up being very rude.
Thanks for that though, it's given me something to think about for sure.

Years ago I got a 3 month job for a PR firm in Covent Garden and had to arrange to rent a room from this old couple in High Barnet. I was renting the room, and just had the room. Had to share the kitchen and my toilet was downstairs while my shower was in the corner of the room.
It'd take an hour to commute by train and tube both there and back, so come 7pm I'm tired and hungry. I'm using the same kitchen as the couple. Her husband liked a drink and often saw 2/3 litre bottles of Sainsbury's Basics Cider - he would drink a bottle a day. Herself would just talk about how crap her life was and how the neighbours were terrible. To the point she actually dug out this big folder of all the !!!! she's recorded them doing. I didn't know she was like this when I agreed to rent the room.
Anyway, my Dad was then diagnosed with lung cancer and my girlfriend diagnosed with severe depression within the first month of me moving to London. I'd often drive back to Birmingham on the Friday night and back to the flat on a Sunday night.
After 3 months I had enough and left the place, she accused me of using the place like a hotel and not involving myself with the couple. She was absolutely off her rocker, I can see why her husband drank the way he did.
Thankfully though my girlfriend got better and we're now buying a house together so I won't have to move away from her again. That whole 3 month period was probably the worst 3 months I've ever had in 27 years of living. But hey ho, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Moral of the story: Don't rent rooms in High Barnet from old couples.0 -
