Buyer requesting we service our boiler prior to exchange - reasonable?

Why? Maybe it was safe but was on it's last legs.
The boiler in my house has serious issues but works. Replacing it would fix the issues but it's still perfectly safe. It has a gas safety certificate and would get another one today.
I would assume when buying a house that the boiler is knackered and needs replacing especially if they were to see the one in my house which is a 20 year old boiler. I'd take that into consideration when making an offer.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It would help if you told us the make, model and age of the boiler.
I would also be concerned buying a house whose boiler hadn't been serviced in such a long time - it means you weren't really taking care of business and what other little jobs have you neglected....?0 -

We don't know whether the OP's house is priced to reflect any lack of maintenance, or not.0 -
I once bought a house (a repossession) and when we moved in and switched the boiler on, water poured out through a crack we didn't know was there, and a new boiler had to be installed at our expense.
Maybe the same has happened to the person who is buying your house, and they don't want to be in the same position again."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
My buyer asked and I refused. It's not my responsibility to get it done for them in advance of them moving in.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thanks for all responses.
Responses seem pretty mixed to be fair. We think we are going to do it, just in case it's a deal breaker for our buyers (I highly doubt it, but you never know).
I am interested in whether our vendors has had it done on the property we are buying. Not had the forms though yet, but interested to know.0 -
Obviously it must have been the seller. Particularly as I was in no big hurry to buy. Maybe they should not have mentioned having it serviced as part of the deal.
You were lucky - a service would be no guarantee that the boiler wouldn't break down over the next year! If you were that worried, why didn't you get someone to look at it?0 -

I agree with those saying that it is down to the vendor to get someone in - how much is a service? I recently paid £85 for mine, and would worry if they were going to be a problem buyer insisting a service is done. Having said that - I would be a bit concerned about the safety aspect of it not having been serviced for 4 years - has it not concerned YOU not having it serviced? Perhaps I'm a worrier as I always have a CO2 detector after my parent 2 year old boiler started giving off CO2.0 -
