I emailed Natwest last week, having gone into my local branch and directed to a larger branch 15miles away, but they could not deal with my problem.
You see, a few years ago hubby and I had financial difficulty. At the time, I received a default from Natwest for £29 - I owed £179 on my overdraft and could only afford to pay some of it. I only just discovered this on my credit report and so was not very happy (it was due to expire next May).
Anyway, I contacted natwest, as I could not believe that they defaulted me for £29. I requested they remove the default.
I received a letter today explaining that they were sorry I had been passed from branch to branch and that they thought it was unfair that I had been defaulted over £29, so would remove this from their internal credit report and also notify external agencies that this is to be removed. They also enclosed a cheque for £70- £20 travel costs and £50 compensation, which I completely did not expect, but am very grateful for!!
So, thank-you natwest

Why should they not issue a default for £29? I'm glad they apologised for giving you the runaround but to compensate you for your poor account handling sends out a very bad message0

They stated in the letter
'on 25 March 2010 you contacted us and offered to make a full and final settlement of £80. We explained that in order for us to accept this, we would need to issue you with a default notice. On 26 March we received your payment of £80 and on 23 April your remaining debt of £28.79 was written off. I don't think it was fair to default you on such a low balance'
and 'my poor account handling' is something that many people go through for many different reasons, so you shouldn't make judgements without knowing all of the facts.0
