Current account switch - HSBC -> First Direct. Other accounts

Hi everyone,

I'm due to move from HSBC to First Direct on the 29th of September. I have two accounts with HSBC - a current account and a green bank account.

The green bank account is shared with my girlfriend and we are using it to save for our first home. I am wondering what will happen to this account when my current account gets switched?

I've tried asking HSBC - but the only 'team' they have that can answer this question only works 9-6 Monday Friday. Unfortunately, so do I! So i can't get in contact with them to ask. Whenever I ring at weekends i'm hung up on by the customer service team.

Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thanks

What is a Halifax green bank account? Does it pre-req a Halifax current account?

  • Nope - just a standard HSBC green account, opened 12 months ago.

If you are using the CASS (Current Account Switch Service) only the current account you specify on the switch agreement will be switched.

You need to check the T&C of your Green joint account , but I doubt it is dependent on you having a separate current account with HSBC.

How much interest do you get in that account?

A switch applies to one account only - the one you ask the bank to switch.

As long as your 'green' account does not pre-req the account you wish to switch, it is not affected by your switch.

With standing colsten's question which is pertinent to the discussion. You have two accounts you can switch one and retain the other
