Dishwasher installation with ao.com

I've just had a new kitchen fitted in my flat.

They have left me space for a dishwasher but it's a fair way from the plumbing under the sink. The plumbing has a spare cold fill outlet and a Y-shaped waste. The washing machine is on one side of the waste and the dishwasher will go on the other.

I reckon the distance the hoses will need to run is about 3.5m. Down the back of the dishwasher to the floor, under the units and back up to the cold feed/waste under the sink.

I've ordered the dishwasher from ao.com and paid for installation. I spoke to their customer services and they said they may not be able to install it.

If they can't, what would I need to do to get it installed?

Is the waste pump in a dishwasher able to cope with this long hose run?

3.5m is a long run. I doubt any dishwasher hoses come with such long hosr
. Have u asked dishwasher manufacturer? . If u have no option but to run 3.5m,then u may need to run hose with a slope to see if gravity will help with long run...

Its a straightforward job to extend a dishwasher outlet hose. Go to any plumbers merchants and explain the situation. Also you can get long cold water feed hoses too. A handyman will be able to sort this for you.

  • Yes, it's a long run but I notice hoses that length are available.

I'm guessing the drain hose on a dishwasher exits at the bottom on the rear? If so, does it need to loop up to the top and back down or can it just go off under the units. Obviously if it doesn't have to loop up and back down this reduces the run by about a metre.

You should always loop up to avoid emptying at the wrong times. A long waste hose is more prone to blockage problems, I'd rather run a bigger smooth bore waste pipe to nearer the machine.

  • 3.5m is the other side of the room. Really when the kitchen was fitted they should have set the plumbing up next to the dishwasher space i.e. a water outlet and waste. Sorry ... hindsight etc.

The dishwasher is actually only about 1.5m from the plumbing. But you have to factor in that the waste hose doesn't go in a straight line. The hose has to loop up and down the back of the machine, then go around a corner under the worktops, then up to the waste under the sink. So with all of that it virtually doubles the run.

Also, I'm in a housing association flat so I got to choose my flooring, tiles, cupboards etc... but not the kitchen layout.
