Halifax Clarity Credit Limit

I have a halifax clarity card, with a limit of £1200 (which is more than enough) had a letter from halifax saying they are going to increase this to £1700 and that I can opt out if I want.
I am looking into getting a mortgage very soon, would this increase look good that they are willing to increase it ? or would it look bad that I have extra credit that I could run up debts even though it is a small increase ? thanks

I think it depends on what else is going on in your "credit" life.
If you're up to your limits, then certainly increase it. Then you won't look so stressed.
People often worry that if you have too much credit available (even if unused) then it could stop you getting more credit because you could go crazy and over-extend yourself. All I can say is that hasn't been my experience. I've never had a problem getting credit despite having >10 cards with mostly unused limits.
Personally I have only reduced a limit when I was worried about fraud.0 -
10 cards you lucky git, I can't even manage to rack up 2 cards. :rotfl:0

I had 6 cards with allot of available credit. Had no problems a mortgage that was 5 yrs ago.
I think they were interested how much was used at the time of application .0 -
I think my lack of credit history is holding me back as I don't have anything bad on my files, maybe once I've got loads of history I can start getting other credit cards except just a crap capital one card with a low limit.0

Don't feel too bad. Credit cards are very similar to each other: Section 75 protection, Chargebacks and up to 56 days interest-free credit.
Incentives (cashback, etc) are generally quite poor now. And a lower APR and higher limit encourages more debt.0 -
I just want a higher limit than £200 as I find myself spending on it and paying back on it regularly just so I have available money to spend, as I hardly ever carry cash with me now just the credit card.0

Not sure how long you held the card for. You can request a limit after 6 months of holding one if you are a new customer. If you held the card for a long time, you can ask for an increase anytime. You can put your desired limit in and see if you get it, and if you don't, they will probably offer you an alternative limit increase.0
