Siemens changed electricity meter - fried my Freeview & DVD?

I just got home to find a note on my mat saying that Siemens, on behalf of my energy supplier, have called to change my Electricity meter. It's external & wall mounted.
I had no notice of this whatsoever.
The only things left on at the plug during the daytime (other than fridge etc) was Freeview box & DVD player. Now neither of them work.
They do both power on, but neither work at all. If I put the channel to AV1 (which both were set to) I get a blank screen & nothing I do can get any life whatsoever out of either unit, except for green LEDs indicating that they are powering up (i.e. not a blown fuse).
Is it possible for some kind of power surge that has left the power circuitry intact but fried the units?
Thanks

The most obvious thing to do is contact the contractor who changed the meter."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

Do you have a switchbox or anything like that connecting these to the tv? I have one and when it loses power it reverts to the first input, sometimes it takes me a few seconds to realise why there's nothing getting through to the tv. Other than that I guess they could have fried something but it's odd that they still power up. Can you try them on a different tv?0
