    The legal fees to try and recover this unexplained debt must be far greater than the amount alledgely owed. Can't help wondering why the OP's ex-employer is chasing for this payment or placed it in the hands of a solicitor in the first place. If the company has shareholders I wonder what they would think of such an unwise use of company funds.

    Everything has to be accountable, it could be argues why spend so much time arguing to defend and avoid the refund?
