Cannot find my V5 document - can I still Part Ex my car?

As the thread title says, I cannot find my v5 document for my car?

I was planning to buy a new car tomorrow and part-exchange my car as part of the deal. Can I still do this?

What do I need to do?

LOL...I reckon the Missus has it, but she has denied it outright!

You can trade it in without the V5. They'll be able to apply for a duplicate one.

i'm sure they'll be fine about it.

Bring ID etc with you just in case.

Given that it could take several weeks to get the V5, I'd expect them to reduce their offer. The dealer shouldn't sell the car until the V5 is present.

The DVLA site says you can order a replacement over the phone and it takes about 5 days

As has been said, 5 days and they'll probably just wait and apply for it in the new owners name.

    No biggie.
  • They will smell "log book loan" this is what "I lost the vc5" usually means when someone is selling a car.
Until they clear that hurdle they might not offer PX.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Won't this show on a HPI check? There would be some sort of charge order on the vehicle as in with finance.
Surely the dealer would be checking for stuff like that before accepting the risk of PX, by now anyways the OP should know where they stand.

All sorted, very happy with the p/x value I got for the car - £800. The Ford dealer said that I will have to pay the £800 until I have the new V5 and they will then refund me. Just phoned DVLA, ordered new V5 - 3 to 5 working days for £25.

Happy with the outcome - thanks for all the advice.
