5% lamb mince - where to buy?

    Dunno if it was 5% (fat?) but tried some from Lidl for The Great Papoutsakia Experiment and was impressed. Hopefully another Lidl shopper will pass by with more details...
  • Very hard to find because there are very few bits of a lamb that have that little fat. And those bits that are so low in fat are not bits that would normally be minced.

    I would get a mincer and buy lamb leg, trim off all the fat and mince it yourself.

    A whole leg? You'll need an awful lot of whatever else you are putting in it to get the lamb to other stuff ratio right.

    If you brown the mince then you can drain a lot of the fat away.

    with shop bought mince I always put in a pan of water and bring to the boil first then drain off the fat then cook it

    and a tip from a weightwatchers person was then to put in sieve and pour a kettle of boiling water over to wash even more fat off, without drowning the mince.
