Dealership service - warranty?
Hello. I would like to know if not having a service via the dealer affects my warranty. I have a Kia. It's coming up to 40000 miles. I have done my first three with kia. My car is still on finance, another 2 years to go. I would like to go elsewhere as I feel the dealer over charges. My car has just had its first mot with my local garage and they replaced my break discs and pads. Thank you

Not sure about Kia but there is a possibility that the additional years of warranty after the first three may have stipulations regarding dealership servicing.
Also if you ever have an issue outside of warranty you are more likely to have a successful "goodwill" arrangement with full dealer history.
On new cars that are under warranty I personally use dealers for servicing but not for tyres or brakes.
If I was to look at a 3yr old vehicle at Auction and the service book was non franchised I would bid less.
Block Exemption means you can use any VAT Registered Garage and your warranty is fine as long as the parts are of one quality.
To be honest 40k is not that bad for discs and pads.0 -
As Kia have a 7 year warranty, go outside of a Kia dealership and any warranty claim will be down to you to show all services were done to Kia standards. Call a few Kia dealers and get the lowest price if you want an easier life, although after 6.5 years how do you show a problem is due to a faulty component and not wear and tear?
I have yet to see evidence that Block Exemption means you have to use a VAT registered garage.0 -
This is how they give those 7 year warranties isn't it? I bet they don't tell you it'd need to be serviced by them at an extortionate price..... At least for the length of the finance agreement or hire purchase (during which it's still effectively their car and they can do what they like).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

But let's consider practicalities.
Do you think a non VAT registered Garage could be considered reputable by a vehicle manufacturer?
Would you as a vehicle manufacturer pay out a £2000 warranty claim based on receipts from a Garage that doesn't turn over enough to warrant VAT Registration?
With such a small turnover how would they afford to purchase the expensive equipment/tools/diagnostics needed to service a car still under manufacturers warranty?0
