Wrong reading used on switch

I recently switched from Scottish Power to Co-op Energy.
After a surprise debit from my bank account by Scottish Power, I did some investigating and it turned out that co-op had given them the starting reading for electric but not for gas, so it was very badly estimated.
Scottish Power advised me to speak to co-op. They then asked me to provide 2 readings 1 week apart so that they could "raise a SAR". Apparently Scottish Power will recalculate my final bill.
A couple of questions for you:
Co-op told me that this SAR thing is a 22 week process. 22 weeks!! Does that sound right?
I've already received another alert telling me it's time switch. Is it safe to do so whilst this is going on?
Thanks
Marc

When you say badly estimated - by how much? I ask because I switched with 105C3Ms in the old supplier's favour. The point at which a dispute can be raised is 109C3Ms. It will take me until the middle of November before my new supplier opening reading will be reached - about 3 months after the switch. It seems that all parties - including me - have to accept this situation. That said, the difference in cost is small. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I don't know the numbers but the estimated reading in near what it is now and that was 3 months ago. They took over £200 and I was already in credit by quite a lot.0

The 'acid test' is do the opening and closing meter readings agree? If they do, then the difference in cost to you is not that much. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
