Brat (and everyone else) - ignore the troll. He can't be educated. It just isn't worth anyone's energy. Ta.

I'm trying not to get sucked in by the troll, Marco, but while people are entitled to their opinions (however inappropriate they may be), I find it hard to let other people be misinformed through factual inaccuracy, whether it be from a pointless troll or a misinformed regular contributor.

They won't be. Genuinely interested people will ask the question themselves, or just google it like everyone else does. There's only about 50 people who read this page anyway, and we ALL know how this ends...

Ha, it's ended for me waiting for a lift to hospital! Heading of for a Saturday morning 30 miler, I was cycling down the hill about 200 yards from home, when an elderly lad in a focus pulled out from his drive hidden behind a car that was half on the pavement. I wasn't able to get any significant speed off - no time, so I've gone into his front A pilar, over the bars, smashed his windscreen with my helmet then somersaulted onto the road on the other side of his car, landing square on my back, smashing my mobile phone. Lots of cuts and bruises, swollen lip, loose front tooth and I'm querying a developing pain in my back. Bike forks, front wheel, bars and shifters likely to need replacing (at least). Clothes wrecked.

The old boy's in shock too - he's late 70s, I've known him for 25 years, poor lad.

Ho hum, just as well I've got the winter bike prepped and ready to go! :)

I cycle along paths that are clearly marked pedestrian on this side, cyclist on the other. Pedestrians walk all over the cycle path. Surely if pedestrians are so terrified of cyclists they would use their own side. I never see pedestrians walking down the middle of a main road.
There is a busy road I use with hoards of shoppers on pavements on each side. When I drive my car along it the shoppers stay on the pavement. When I cycle along in my hi viz jacket and super bright flashing light they see my bicycle and just cross in front of me. I have to find a space between them to get through.
I often cycle along quiet roads. I am always amazed when a pedestrian just crosses in front of my bike without even looking in my direction. They feel they can cross without even looking because they can't hear a motorized vehicle.
Obviously not all pedestrians are the same, but I think most of them really know where true danger lies.

Thanks mate. Just back from hospital and on checking the bike it looks pretty unscathed apart from scratches. I'll get it properly checked over, and I'll have a word with my cycle insurers. I'll need to stick a claim in for clothing and my iphone, even if I don't claim on the bike. My back is really swollen and painful, so I'm going to have to take a couple of days off work until I stop hobbling.
If only I had the constitution of the top cyclists, I'd be back on it doing 100 miles this afternoon! :)

I've got a decent winter bike mate, it's a Whyte cyclocross with road tyres and tiagra groupset. It's just waiting for a ride out. I was looking forward to using my supersix next week though, I'm off for most of it, and the weather looks good. Never mind, the fitness will benefit from lugging the extra 3Kg up the hills! :)
