Our windows have been in around 20 years and the brass handles/catches are looking tired and shabby. Is there anything i can buy to spruce them up a bit until we gather up ££ to replace ?
Thanks

They are probably laquered, rather than polished brass, so cleaning with Brasso, or a metal polish wont work.

There are lots of options in B&Q or for 'trade' prices, try Screwfix.

Once you get them cleaned, don't bother changing them. Brass and copper are already 'in' at the high end of interior design. It won't be long until everyone's at it.

    How MSE is that!

To second this, brass is available for handles with a 25 year guarantee against tarnish and discolouring. It costs a fortune which may be why brass is currently at the top end of the market. The last pairs of handles that I bought after shopping around were discounted in the building trade but still cost around £36. The customer had a budget of £1000+ for door handles so these managed to, just about, come within budget.

We replaced ours with chrome, sourced via eBay. Very easy to do, various brands and quality available.
