Smart meters and tie-ins

Hi,

BG are installing smart meters for both electric and gas later this month.
My tariff with BG is up at the end of Sept. Once the meters are replaced is there a tie in to remain with that BG or am I free to shop around for better deal when my current deal expires.
Thanks.

No tie in. You are free to switch now if your contract end date is 30th September. The only 'risk' is that you might end up with a final billing delay whilst BG works out the units used across two meters. Also, bear in mind, that unless you stay with BG or one of its re-sellers then you will end up with a dumb meter.

Rather than waste both your time and the engineers you should cancel the appointment. If you move suppliers too soon after an exchange it can cause problems for you as the industry systemsmay not be updated.
