Dear me. Apple are truly the masters of planned obsolescence. For years, and I mean years, mobile manufacturers with internal batteries have connected via means of clamp or ribbon connector. Some even stick with the old fashioned pin connector.
Not Apple, they solder it, so it's !!!!ing really awkward and potentially damaging to your device.

Take it to an Apple store first, the wife has just had here 15 month old iPhone 5s replaced as the battery was faulty.0
