Ceiling pendant light fixture - advice needed

This may sound like a daft question but I cannot for the life of me work out the answer.

I am trying to buy a new fitting for the ceiling pendant light fixture in the new flat we are renting. Seems the old tenant didn't have a lampshade up but when we went to go and put one up we realised there was no fixer bit for it.... in other words the pendant has the attachment for the bulb to go into, but when you put the lampshade up, before you screw the bulb in there should be another white piece...

Anyone have the name for this piece and where I could buy one without forking out a arm or a leg?

Thanks.

    Hi

I would call it a SKIRT.

    If you look here.. http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/43388-pro-elec-83320-batten-l-holder-ho-skirt-t2-bc.html

The HO refers to HOME OFFICE, the old government department

    then here... http://www.screwfix.com/p/crabtree-t2-batten-holder/51084

you will see a difference in the SKIRT's.

They are less than a Fiver.

    So does this help?

You could unscrew the cup thing off another lamp holder or buy a cheap lamp holder and unscrew the cup off that and use that
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.

    Or this?
Or you could just buy a complete new lampholder?

  • Thank you Johndough.... skirt! Why couldn't I remember that! Doh. XD

One further question, are these skirts different sizes or is a generic one fit for all purposes?
  • I don't particularly want to have to go through rewiring a whole socket if I only need one part and I can get it cheaply.

Then buy a complete lampholder (they're not expensive) and if the skirt fits on the existing one, job done. If it doesn't, you've got a new lampholder to connect up, which is not a difficult task for most people.

Are they the same size? Usually, unless it's a fitting from another country. E.g. I think IKEA fittings might be different.

    Hiya

Both the links would be interchangeable, and in my experience so are all the other white goods type. B22d is a standard size.

There are E series, screw in type, and even Brass that could be different, but any good DIY shop would sell and possibly let you exchange if it was wrongly chosen.
