If there's no vehicle in front then the stopping distance is irrelevant. They're not intended to be used for stationary objects.

Oh dear - little consideration for 'non-vehicular' legimate road users.

God help the nuns and kittens. ;)

The HC tells us "Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear." How can you do that if you don't know your stopping distances?
I've got no idea what the stopping distances are. I doubt many drivers know the stopping distances at all speeds, then accurately apply them. Do you?. I use my judgement. It seems to work.

Stuff the nuns and kittens. I'm not stopping for them. They can complain to Jesus or the PDSA.

Theory goes out the window as soon as people start driving anyway. It's irritating knowing i haven't passed my test, then seeing so many useless drivers on the road these days.

so says the learner who bumbles along at 20mph, stops dead at every junction, creeps up as slow as possible to roundabouts, and who stops dead when there's enough room to fit a tank through a gap :rotfl:
