Can I sell items from my personal collection on eBay while on Income Support?

Hello,
I am my disabled brother's registered carer and have recently been receiving Income Support in addition to Carer's Allowance.
Due to our parents divorce (we both still live in the family home) we will have to move very soon and will obviously be in a much smaller house. As a result I want to minimize what I take with me. I have a found a few things while clearing out that I no longer need. I also collect various types of collectible figures/toys and have quite a few doubles that I don't need. I'd like to sell them on eBay. But I'm worried as I don't know if selling on eBay could affect my Income Support?
I am not running a business but as I often restore the figures when they come into my collection and try to present them and describe them well they do sometimes sell for slightly more than what I originally pay for them (though tend to cost a lot more in the long run in the materials used to restore them than I ever sell them for)
Prior to receiving Income Support I used to sell my doubles on eBay from time to time anyway and on some occasions when one was too badly damaged to restore I would customize it. I used to do it as a hobby from time to time but I rarely actually make any money from them. Usually they just about breakeven and sometimes I take a loss. I just do it because I enjoy it.
At the moment I unfortunately rely on the CA and IS to pay the bills. My Mother is also disabled and whatever time isn't spent looking after my brother is often spent either looking after her or looking after the house. I only work on my figures on rare occasions if and when I get the time.
I don't like how things are at the moment, I'd much rather have a proper job and get off of the benefits but at the moment that's just not an option. My Mum and brother need someone to look after them and without me they'd have no one. I can't afford to lose the CA or IS at the moment. So as much as I hate being on the benefits at the moment I have no choice.
At the same time I've sorted quite a few things that can go and I really want to get rid of them now - before we move house. I'm not looking to make a profit, just get back what I spent on them if possible.

So tldr version, am I allowed to sell my own items such as things from my personal figure collection, clothes etc on eBay from time to time without it affecting my IS or CA?

  • Just an additional note, we're talking about generally low priced figures. Very rarely do they ever go over £10 in value. And as I say, I often take a loss on them. And I only sell them every now and again, not on a regular basis
  • As long as you are not running a business, you shouldn't have a problem.

I had a friend who sold his model railway collection over a period of about a year, bringing in about £2k, and as a pensioner he was receiving Housing/Council Tax Benefit and Pension Credit, and he had no problem.
"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock
  • If it's stuff you own and you're decluttering yes you can sell it with no impact. If you buy or otherwise acquire stuff with the intention of selling it for a profit, you'd have to declare it for income support and also for tax and ni purposes.
