Has anyone had a FESS op?

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery

You'll feel a bit battered for a few days after but it'll pass.
It's a good idea to stay away from places where you'd normally be prone to picking up an infection - busy places, buses and such like because your sinuses are going to be more open to nasties.
Good luck

I also didn't know it was called a FESS op!!!
I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction 5 years ago and it has been fantastic. At the time I was out for about 90 mins whilst they did my op but we allowed home that night. I was in hospital most of the day.
I've got a high pain threshold but cocodomol and ibuprofen are your friend and you'll probably need to take them for at least a week. They gave me codine too but I wasn't too bothered about that. I don't like the side effects.
If my memory serves well I was advised to not put my head below heart level for 3 weeks and also to ensure that I stayed away from dust. I ended up sleeping upright for the first 3 days on the sofa as I couldn't breathe lying down. A week after the op I was feeling really well and able to breathe!
Oh and nasal infections are common....I got one....just get straight to the docs for some antibiotics. You'll be right as rain in no time!£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
Hello Counting Pennies
How did your OP go, and do you have any advice? I am having a FESS in a couple of weeks.
How long did you have to stay away from work afterwards, and did you get black eyes?
Hi the jury is out on whether the benefits will be long term. I felt instantly better after the op. I had very compacted sinuses and the CT scan showed I hadn't any gaps for air in my sinuses. So the improvement of being able to breathe was instant.
No black eyes, my surgeon was very gentle and thorough. As others have said, completely wiped out. I am over a month since the operation, however I still feel very tired. I napped daily during waking hours for the first two weeks, and after the slightest exertion now I still need 40 winks to get me through the rest of the day. I am hopeful I will get more energy soon.
I do get occasional headaches which can be rather debilitating and can only assume it is the scaring internally where the nerves are adjusting.
I flush four times a day through my nose, and that is a wonderful relief. When I am unable to do it I notice the effects.
I had packing put in my nose which I understand is standard and that is disposable and slowly comes out through the flushing. I am still finding a little coming out.
All in all it was worth having it done. I just hope it will have long term benefits and not just short term relief.
Fingers crossed!
Good luck with your op0
