Pre-Payment - Switching suppliers
Options
Hi All
I am currently with Eon for gas and electricity - both pre-payment. I am in the process of switching to Ovo, the gas card arrived this morning and I am waiting for the electricity key to turn up.
The letter that came with the card tells me that I will need to put the gas card in the meter and leave it for 30 seconds to program the meter to the new card and supplier, but when I do this, what will happen to the credit already on the meter? Will it transfer over to Ovo or will it dissappear?
Obviously I don't yet have the key for electricity but advice would still be appreciated for when it arrives.
Thanks in advance!

The credit will stay. The rates on the meter will change.0

The credit will go.OVO s new card has nothing to do with EON and will start from zero with OVOs new rates.Eon will have a record of your unused credit and should make a repayment to you.0

I would run the meter down to almost zero before reprogramming with the new OVO card.0

A PPM is simply an alternative method of payment.
As with a credit meter, you will still have an account with the supplier, and when you switch supplier you will be required to provide a meter reading.
The old supplier will finalise your account and the new supplier will set up a new one.
If there is any credit on your finalised account, this should be returned to you.
Edit: If you run down the meter as suggested above, this will mean you will be obtaining electricity or gas using money paid to Eon when that energy was supplied by Ovo. This will mean your account with Ovo will be short, therefore I would not recoomend doing this.0 -
Good morning csi666
footyguy has given some great info here so thanks.
When changing supplier with a pre-payment meter the principles are the same.
You'll be asked to provide a meter read to your new supplier and they'll send this to us to close your account and issue a final statement.
Any credit left over after the switch and the statement is produced is normally sent via a cheque, that you can just pay in to your bank as normal.
Hope the switch all runs smoothly for you.
Thank you

When I went from EON to EDF the credit stayed on the meter. I just had to keep the new key in the meter for 30 secs so the rates updated.0
