Settled Wonga loan STILL marked as defaulted 3 years after settled!

Hi,

Sorry am very new and cannot find any rules or rights anywhere.

When I was very desperate I foolishly took out a wonga loan in 2011 i defaulted a payment (silly i know) but fully settled the balance.

However I have recently checked my credit score and can see that the account is STILL marked as defaulted.

I called them and obviously no one would talk to me, however they have written an email which states they have now updated my file as settled.

However I wanted to know if I can claim any compensation for their negligence in updating my score and leaving me with a horrid default necessarily on my file for over 3 years preventing me from getting any credit.

If I am totally wrong then that is fine.. just wanted to check and this seems like the place for answers :)

Many Thanks in advance!

Em

If they actually entered a default on your file, then unless that was wrong, it stays there as a default for 6 years.

When settled it will be marked as satisfied default, but it will still be a default.

  • As above - they haven't done anything wrong I'm afraid. Your default record will drop off your file after 6 years.

Yep it will stay on for another 3 years unfortunately settled or not!
  • Just to be clear the default account will stay on for 6 years from the default date.

    Hi Em

We all go through some tough times now and again, no need to beat yourself up about taking a payday loan.

Credit files are hard to read sometimes and may have confusing information. From what you’ve said, it’s unclear what’s recorded on your file and what should actually be on there.

Why don’t you get in touch so we can go through your credit file? And make sure it says what it’s supposed to.

Our contact details are below or you can sent us a direct message on here with your number and we’ll call you back.

Look forward to hearing from you.
