Warm house discount

Options
A Rant - Changed energy suppliers from SSE To Utilita this year. I specifically said to the guy would I get the Warm House Discount as I get it with SSE. It was one of my provisos on changing. Yes he said, you definitely will. I rang just after they changed over and asked if I had to do anything and they said no, wait until Sept. andif you haven't heard anything give us a ring. I didn't hear anything so rang today. Im not on the list and they aren't taking any more applications. spent 2 hours going round and round but I am definitely not getting it.
I haven't saved anything money wise either on my weekly bill. £25 per week electric £10 gas, so still costing me an arm and a leg. Now I'm losing £140 because somebody didn't put me on the list.
So, I need to move... have checked and Im not under contract so I can just move. Need to find a provider, preferably with Smart meters that haven't closed their books for the WHD.
So annoyed. I feel conned and I hate being conned.

Make a formal written complaint. You will be awarded £140 plus a bit extra. Eventually.

that haven't closed their books for the WHD

Core Group are households of less well-off pensioners - DWP automated. Broader Group customers are fuel poor or in a group at risk of fuel poverty - voluntary.

Your chances of getting into the broader group with any new supplier this late must be pretty low to zero because its first come first served supplier discretion. Best of luck 'inspirespirit'

Add DWP automated extra info 18th sep 2015

Jurisdiction for the core group belongs to DWP who authorize the support in writing to (1) householder [brown envelope] and (2) supplier data transfer beginning at or around the middle of September each year so any core group entitled household would expect the 'brown envelope via snail mail' beginning this week. The reduction of this years £140 should appear in your electricity bill before the end of April 2016.

On the letter from the DWP there is a reference number on the TRHS which begins with an M or a U. If the letter is M you don't need to do anything if the letter is U this means that the DWP aren't sure who your electricity supplier is. You’ll need to give the DWP a call [using the telephone number on the letter] and give them your electricity account number and Meter Point Administration Number [MPAN]. You'll find the information you need on your electricity bill, so have this handy when you call. But don’t delay, if you don’t call them by the date specified on your letter, you won't get your discount.

    Best of luck.

  • It would be helpful if the discretionary (broader group) warm homes discount scheme were to be given a completely different name from the statutory (core group) scheme.

For the core group, the discount is applied (usually in the autumn time) by whichever supplier was under contract on the preceding 12th July. I have never risked switching supplier between the qualifying date and the receipt of the discount.

If the OP had applied to the previous supplier, and had received confirmation that he/she would receive payment out of the supplier’s discretionary budget for the current year, then it is at least possible that the previous supplier would still be willing to make the payment. But now that the account is closed, the previous supplier may be in need of a bit of encouragement that they should honour their earlier commitment. Give them a ring...

modsandmockers If the customer is a Broader customer and qualifies, then leaves the supplier, the rules are that they forfeit the payment. Only Core customers can move supplier without penalty. I know BG are still taking applications and I am sure others will be too so it is just a case of either checking their websites or phoning around. As it only takes 17 days to switch now there is a greater chance the scheme will not have closed before moving supplier but this cannot be guaranteed at this time. A company may be able to tell you that you will qualify but cannot guarantee a payment.

Yes - the time to switch is just after your account has been credited with WHD.
