No brightness on laptop

I have a HP G61 notebook, Windows 7, IE11
The AC charger is plugged in and shows it's charging, however, there is no brightness on the screen.
I've removed and reinserted the battery, together with the AC charger, but still no brightness.
Any suggestions please?
